CONAN THE BARBARIAN #10
Brian Wood (W), Declan Shalvey (A), Dave Stewart ©, and Massimo Carnevale (Cover)
On sale Nov 14
FC, 32 pages
$3.50
Ongoing
Conan and Bêlit are the undisputed masters of the Western Ocean, their names whispered in fearful awe all along the Black Coast. But when Conan spots a mysterious, derelict ship following them, its horrifying cargo threatens to destroy everything they’ve built and tear them apart!
• From Brian Wood (Northlanders) and Declan Shalvey (Dark Avengers)!
• Wood’s hard-hitting take on the Cimmerian is winning scores of new readers!
“I want more. More of this story. More of the story Brian Wood is telling. This is no longer Robert E. Howard’s Conan; this is Brian Wood’s Conan. And it is good.” —ComicsBulletin.com
At least they're back on the water. There may be room to fit in some incidents mentioned in other stories if they don't spend all three issues out on the water.
Interesting looking cover, but what's with the obsession with making Conan skinny now? Lithe is one thing, emaciated is another unless it's part of the story.
I looked up some of Declan's art from his Marvel work, I like what I've seen.
The last little comment tagline says it all about where we are.

"... you speak of Venarium familiarly. Perhaps you were there?"
"I was," grunted [Conan]. "I was one of the horde that swarmed over the hills. I hadn't yet seen fifteen snows, but already my name was repeated about the council fires." - "Beyond the Black River", by Robert E. Howard

Nay, I am referring to the gap in his chest between the muscles. The wider the gap the weirder it looks.

Seriously, though, Iggy (at 60) looks meaner/more bad-a$$ than that.
Agreed. Definitely.
As an aside, several older men that kept/keep looking tough and dangerous into older age that come to mind are guys like Woody Strode, Jim Brown, Chuck Connors, James Arness, and of course, Clint Eastwood.

Crom!! Conan really needs to eat something.
He can't keep anything down; he and Bêlit have been at sea so infrequently that he's still seasick all the time.

"Here's to brother Painbrush, we drink to his Shade..."
"All Art Is Martial"- RZA
"Our basic purist premise:
ROBERT E. HOWARD, ENTIRELY ALONE, WITHOUT ASSISTANCE FROM ANY OTHER PERSON, CREATED THE CHARACTER CONAN OF CIMMERIA. NO OTHER PERSON OR PERSONS SHOULD BE INTRUDING THEIR WORK INTO THE VOLUMES OF HOWARD'S CONAN STORIES.
In essence, we believe that the work of any creative artist -- writer, painter, illustrator, musician, what-have-you -- is a unique expression of an artistic point of view. It should not be appropriated or altered by others without the artist's consent. No other writer has Robert E. Howard's unique point of view, and no other writer knows what Howard would have done with his character had he lived. Upon his death, his canon, the expression of his artistic vision, became fixed. Tampering with it now is desecration."
