Joe Lansdale a successful author, a longtime REH fan, and has written some REH comics for Dark Horse.
All this is fairly well known... but did you know he's a skilled martial artist too?
Have a look:

Be nice to Joe, eh. ;-)

Yeah, he's a master who has developed his own martial arts style.

And goddamn, that looked painful... :o

Thanks! I'm a fan of Joe Lansdale and a recent book I read of his is called Tight Little Stiches in a Dead Man's Back which I believe was one of his first books written. It's an excellent story!

Joe's son-in-law had me laughing when I saw him doing tiptoes when his fingers were getting bent backwards. The moves Joe did were quick and unbelievable! He's a master at this.

I have a 40" black belt and can break a pencil in two cleanly and quickly. All someone has to do is hold the pencil on each end and I can come down with a karate chop in the middle and it's a clean break. :D

Wow, pretty impressive real martial art moves there. What a colorful background for a writer.

This is awesome! I knew he ran a dojo and have heard him speak enthusiastically about martial arts, but this is the first demonstration I ever saw of his style.

The guy is hands down my favorite living author. He's the 'Joe' I dedicated my first Merkabah Rider novel to (along with a certain 'Bob' and 'Howard Phillips'), and when I met him at World Horror Con in Salt Lake City this year, he was cool enough to swap autographed copies with me (he signed my Dead In The West in return). He talks a blue streak, but he's endlessly interesting to listen to.
