I remember it from the 1970's when I worked at B. Dalton Bookseller. It was a comic or magazine that had a splendid illustration of "Bran Mak Morn" on the cover. It could have been done by the awesome "Frazzeta", but I am not absolutely sure. I have not been able to find this particular illustration anywhere on the web.

This illustration depicted "Bran Mak Morn" sprawled gloomily on his mossy stone Pictish Throne in a dark primeval forest. Totally quiescent but still exuding the raw physical power and savagery of his kind. Coarse and massive he was. It could be truly believed that he was a formidible opponent of the mighty "Conan".

Has anyone here seen this illustration? Can a link be shared to bring me to it?

Does anyone know where the original painting is?

My apologies for not remembering which comic or magazine company ran this particular issue. But I am fairly certain it came out in the late seventies.

Looking forward to your responses.

Hey Dan! Welcome to the forum. :D

Marvel had the rights in the '70s. They never put BMM on the cover of ANY "comic or magazine" during that time, AFAIK. You might check out the "BMM Art" thread (and the rest of the BMM board).

Hope that helps. :)

Thanks for the response and the welcome, "Hyborian Legend". I thought I did look through the Bran Mak Morn artwork, but maybe I missed something. I'll try again. :) Now, I am beginning to think I might be wrong about the date...what I remember might have been a special order of an older publication that a fan had ordered through the store.

Just from the description it sounds like you might be thinking of this picture by Arthur Suydam. I don't know where it has appeared in the past though.

Good try "Wulfhere". Indeed what you have shared is very similar to the one I seek.

But, the one I remember is a closer view of Bran Mak Morn. He and his throne fills the whole page. And he is crowded by the primeval forest around him. One can almost feel the dampness and smell the mold. And he is looking full at the viewer of the illustration very sullenly.

Thanks for the try. At least the one you shared has a lot of the elements that I remember. It is quite a fine depiction too. I think the skulls are right too. This is the first time I have seen yours too.

The alphabet coloring option is broken.
