So, I have finally done a first weeding through all the scanning we've done over the last seven years. Glenn owned around 14,600 original pages of REH typescript. This compares to the 1000 or so pages at Cross Plains Library, and 300 or so pages at TAMU in the TCS collection. Weinberg supposeldy still owns a couple original Conan typescripts, so maybe another 100 or so with him. I don't think anyone else owns more than a dozen pages.
Note when I say "Pages", I mean of original typed stuff. Some physical pages were typed on both sides. Actual sheets of paper, Glenn's stash is a little less than 14K. Fits in eight full banker boxes.
As I was telling the appraiser, this is mostly made up of either (1) carbons of final drafts of works he sold in his lifetime, (2) earlier drafts, or (3) final drafts of stories he didn't sell. One story, The Silver Heel, has seven different drafts. A number of the detective stories, he worked his way through numerous drafts, growing the story each draft. Lots of stories, all we have are partial drafts. Lots of stories, we don't have anything.
But boy is that a lot of paper.

That's very cool.
So is this strictly for archiving purposes or for publication?

We of course use the original pages for crafting the books we put out, and the same for Del Rey. I don't know that Paradox would ever just publish the raw pages for no reason. But don't get me wrong, if there was some version of some story you were looking to see in the original, I imagine it could be seen.
