Conan Needs A Sidekick!

23 July 2004 - 08:55 PM

Sine most of us here are into fantasy, so imagine you're taking a trip to the Hyborian age.

What situations are you prepared for?  What skills do you have that would be useful to Conan?  What would you bring?  What would you do?  Brag it up, but be honest, this is the job interview of a lifetime!

My skills:

Weaponry- I am fairly adept at using many ranged weapons, I can throw axes, knives, stars.  I can shoot most firearms, bows, slings.  I play with swords, but swordplay is one of my weaker points and would most likely be killed by any serious swordsman or knife fighter.

Hand to hand-I've practiced many forms of martial arts: Karate, Judo, Brazilian Jujitsu, Jeet Kune Do, wrestling.  Grappling is my strong suit, but I can strike if needed.  My physique is not what it used to be however, I was much bigger and stronger in high school.

Misc. survival skills- I always lived in a fairly "rural" area from the woods of the NW USA to the jungles of Central America.  I'am good at adjusting to different terrain, climates and cultures.  I know basic survival skills and am a whiz at orienteering.  However I can't track worth a damn.  I can fish, but would starve if I had to purely hunt or trap game.  I've got a lot of stamina and can hike an impressive distance.

Other skills- I can speak English and Spanish which may come in handy when translating different Hyborian dialects.  I've done a little shop lifting (sorry ma) so I'am not above theft and plunder.  I'am fine on the open sea having been on sea going vessels of various sizes, but I've never been on a sail boat so my sailing skills are non existant.

I'd bring- A compass, REH's map of Hyboria, flint and steel, matches, lighters, a few of my fav knives and swords. Fishing line. Sleeping bag and tent.  I'd like to steer clear of hi tech items that would get me burned as a witch, but a flashlight and firearm would be handy.

So that's my barbarian resume.  What's your's?
