Reports are that the film is set to be a massive failure at the US box-office - it got just over 3 million dollars on Friday and will be lucky to make 10m for the weekend - projections were 18m or more. This is looking like a big flop and no film studio is going to be keen to touch Conan again - awful news for anyone hoping for a sequel more faithful to REH, or indeed any sequel at all

Not just Conan, but I'm pretty sure they will also be shelving the Red Sonja project as well, and likely many other fantasy based action adventure movies.  After the Hobbit movies come out we may have a bit of a boost, but I wouldn't expect any REH based projects in the next 10 years or so.  I really feel it is too bad, as I enjoyed the movie, but at best we might get a TV series in a decade if productions like Game of Thrones remain successful.  I think a big part of the problem is people felt this was a remake of the 1982 movie instead of a completely separate new production with no ties.  Generally speaking, the 1982 film is not very popular these days and does not hold up well.  It is really too bad, I was hoping for more.

I saw the movie earlier today, and I enjoyed it quite a bit.  There were a couple of things I didn't like, but over all I thought it was fun and Mamoa was a great Conan.  To those of you criticizing his physique and calling him a Victoria Secrets model, I think you guys need to wake up.  People were not using steroids or HGH in the age of Hyboria, and fighters and warriors don't like like body builders.  If you need any proof look at the UFC roster, or any special forces operative.  They have builds like Momoa did here, not a gigantic body builder with no agility or speed.  Last I checked, this is how Howard described him as well, able to move like a panther and all of that, not so built he could barely move his sword around.  As to the criticism of "Conan did not actually steal the Heart of the Elephant nor did he actually kill Yara" you have to take into account it was his buddy trying to talk him up to a girl, not someone accurately transcribing the event for historical record.  Was the movie true REH?  No, not really.  I honestly thought it took a lot more from Dark Horse comic series.  Was it fun?  It was for me.  I think it was a fun story and the lead was a great Conan.  He looked the part to me, he was smart, witty, and violent.  I enjoyed it and wish the best for the movie.  I doubt it will do well, because these kind of movies rarely do, but I will hope for the best.
