While it's not exactly the same thing, he's reversing the postion of the one who would overcome death for the other. It's still forshadowing Belit's death, but instead of Belit being so devoted to Conan that she would come back from death to be with him, you have Conan so devoted to Belit that he would follow her into the afterlife.
I certainly don't think it's an accident or coincidence.
Considering how much guilt Conan seems to have about the death of his son and the crew of the Argus he is going to have a real hard time after Belit's death. He may not be be able to stand the pain and be forced to go outside to his car, put a gun to his head - oh wait that's someone else. Conan may be forced to follow her to the Abyss using the black lotus (because drugs are okay now) only to be turned back by the shimmering spirits of Belit and their son (and maybe Obi-wan Kenobi) who tell him he must return to the lands of the living to fulfill his destiny.
All joking aside, I can see Woods trying some misguided homage to REH's suicide just to prove how much he really does understand Robert E Howard.
