it is about the possibility to learn from other people's opinions/information.  Some find that endeavor worthy

Take your own advice or does it only apply to those who don't share your opinion. You are as steadfast in
your opinion as I am in mine. This is fine. Taking swipes at my character, like the little parting "Dr.Quill" shot,
is not.

Now you're just being rude.  It seems to me that you're the one getting upset, since you're the one who's resorted to name calling and ad hominem attacks.  And by the way, we're all fanboys here, and proud of it.  You've obviously come to the wrong place.

...and I thought you said you weren't interested in having a conversation.

Sorry, I won't be bated. Unless you are going to do something other than attack my character, you have nothing more of interest to me.

And if I had read it once, would you have suggested that I had not read it enough? I do not make statements casually. As I said in my first post, I like the concept of a secluded castle or city. I just don't like the Natala character. Also, I did not say the body of Howard's work was hack. I didn't even say that the story was hack. I said that the character was hack writing and supplied my reasons. Others have stated why they feel the character is worthy of admiration, but I do not agree with their evidence or conclusions. I'm a fan of Howard's work, but I don't put him or his work on a pedestal, as some in this forum appear to do. Also, please don't accuse me of either "throwing" out phrases or of them being "amateurish." I have four degrees, two of which are in history and one in anthropology. I think that at least disqualifies me of being "amateurish." Also, the quotes and actions cited in the thread you mention do little to support Natala as a positive and realistic character, rather than the wet blanket she really is. All they do is support her relevance as a plot device, which any character could easily fill. In my opinion she is not a worthy character, and I have yet to see any evidence to change that opinion. Really, I don't know why folks are so hot and bothered that my opinion differs from theirs. It's just an opinion. I can live with yours, regardless of how wrong I might think it may be. Can you not live with mine? Unless your just being overly protective and fan-boyish, in which case, this is a pointless exercise. I never argue with fan-boys.  ;)

Every post that has disagreed with your opinion,  you have posted another post reiterating more adamantly your opinion - if anyone is acting fan-boyish it is your need to constantly post the same opinion over and over.  I have just suggested you read a topic that is relevant.  In fact, I have not posted an opinion other than you should read the Natala topic. Surely with your four degrees you can appreciate relevant research.  And even with four degrees I do not think you qualify to submit a psychiatric professional opinion - thus it is amateurish.  No need to be sensitive to the word usgae.

I would suggest you approach a colleague and submit a similar defense contrary to your colleagues.  If he/she suggested you read a certain bit of information it is only professional to show your colleague the respect he/she deserves and read the relevant information to ascertain the relevance.  With four degrees I do not think you would say "I skimmed" the info and I disagree.  It is only polite to show the same respect to members here on the forum and the differing opinions and information they bring to the table. Especially if you demanding respect in kind.

So, please do not cry foul with the "my opinion" crap - that just does not work on this forum.

For starters, you are incorrect regarding my qualifications to render a psychological assessment. My fourth degree is in psychology. I didn't think it relevant, but since you brought up psychological evaluation, you have made it relevant. I think you need to look up the definition of fan-boy. You and a few others seem guilty of practicing it, not I. Also, I already said that I read some of the posts from the thread you pointed to, and that I didn't find anything more than I found here. I am not going to go and read over every single post just to satisfy your whims. "If it walks like a duck..." I didn't attack any of the posters or their integrity or character, as you and another poster seem to be doing to me, simply because I didn't agree with your opinion and assessments. I did not question your (or anyone else's) ability to form an opinion or to support it. I just didn't agree with the opinion or the evidence, which I stated was subjective. On the other hand, my character and competence has been questioned and attacked more in this thread than my arguments.  You and a few others seem to feel that discussion and argument is solely for the purpose of changing someone's opinion. It's not and opinion changing rarely works that way. As I said before, I have my opinion, and you have yours. I do not agree with the evidence used to support yours. If you insist on using attacks such as "amateurish" and "crap" then this is simply devolving into bitch slapping, and I have better things to do.

Quills - how many times have you read the story?

I have read it three times.

Three times - I'm surprised you could handle the beautiful Natala three times.  The reason I ask is for someone who has continued their assault on Howard and Natala you would think a topic specifically devoted to her would be worth reading and yet you dismiss it as not pertinent.  There are some very insightful and intelligent posts regarding your favorite damsel in distress and her relationship with Conan and their interaction.  You seem more interested in throwing out amateurish diagnosis catch phrases like "suppressing woman" and "male fantasy" and repeatedly referring to Howard's writing as "hack" writing while never referring to quotes or instances in the story specifically  Many of the Natala quotes and actions are discussed in the Natala topic and are worth the time in reading.

I'm gonna move this discussion to that topic to make it easier for you.  :)
