Dark Horse should give Schultz a chance to do his adaptation of Queen as an alternate take on that story. :)

Unfortunately, we already have an alternate take on the story.

Over on the Yahoo Group it was said that Schultz's drawing was a rough for the cover of a "collection of Conan comics".

And Terry Allen suggested, since that's probably Belit beside the Cimmerian, that this was possibly going to be the cover for a collected arc of Wood's expansion of QOTBC.

This seems entirely possible, especially since nobody's heard of Schultz doing anything substantial with Conan.

Imagine wrapping Schultz's lushly completed old school picture, ablaze with the influence from Frank Frazetta, Wally Wood and Al Williamson and filled with wild supernatural menaces in direct conflict with the barbarian, around the work of Wood and his team.

Talk about a misleading cover.

A textbook example of lipstick on a pig.

One of the biggest problems is that he takes one of Belit's key lines from the original story and has Conan say it. This undermines the finale (if Wood is even going to bother with it). He no doubt thinks he is very clever in doing this. "Wheee, role-reversal. I'm sooo deep."

Maybe they're going to go all topsy turvy with it and in this version Conan will die but he'll come back and save Belit so that she can go on and be a role model for girls everywhere.

Male heroes are so old fashioned and cliche, especially two dimensional brutes like Conan.

Are you serious???  I haven't picked up the issue (obviously), and spoilers are obviously frowned upon, but Wood has Conan saying this line???

Were I still in death and you fighting for life, I would come back from the abyss to aid you

I've long suspected it, but at this point I think Wood is carrying a grudge from our initial reaction and is now deliberately trolling old school Conan fans.

I don't know what line the others are talking about as I haven't read the wretched thing, but nothing would surprise me. This has been so badly mishandled by dark horse that I am torn about Hour of the Dragon. On the one hand I have faith in Truman & Giorello but I hate the company they are doing it for. Dark horse has burned any goodwill I once felt toward them and now I really just want to see them fail.

I think the blade dudes are just the mortal guards they have on their property.

I don't recall any noseless blade headed guards in the story. I'm also not liking the roid monster on the horse. Looks more like the incredible hulk in a wig and body paint. I suspect I'll pass on this one.
