No, the whole thing wasn't just defending the movie, just a recent example that I figured everyone knew. And I didn't say that was the THE way the movie used it, just the way I took it. As in just MY interpretation. There was no midwest "slam" as I am from the midwest and thought the expression might just be a midwestern thing as something tend to be. I also didn't say that anyone said I took it any particular way, i was just stating my thoughts, it is a forum, that's what its here for. As for the "overanalyzing" bit. I was insinuating that I was doing it also. I see no need to jump down anyone's throat.
As for the the Victorian age, that is an interesting thought. I could see how it would be an influence.

Personally, I never took "Hyboria" to be the name for the whole Earth during Conan's time. If you take it in the most literal sense it could come off as the that, but world has been used to describe various sections of the whole world. Like the "New World", Not actually a world, just a place new and different. When i see the "Hyborian world", it makes me think of the World as the Hyborians knew it. Most would not have known the of the other continents and only have heard of distant lands in passing. Just the populated an mapped land that they were aware of would be there "world". Heck, if one never leaves their house, they would have a vary small world. Or maybe that's just a midwest thing. In PotS, Vanaheim and Asgard are thought to be mythical. Plus we know that the Hyborian peoples are the dominant ones, so in the context of the movie, they would be the ones to conquer. I took, "conquer all of Hyboria!" to mean conquer all of the biggest and best kingdoms, not the world. But feel free to over analyze and rethink through every tid bit to your heart's content.

I think you are over reacting...as well as a lot of other people. But this board is full of rampant over-reactors.

Heck, Ghost Rider is getting a sequel. Although it is a tad rebootish it still has Nick Cage. We might have to wait awhile but I don't think all is lost.

I disagree that they can't use Jason. I for one thought Jason rocked. They don't have to deny that this movie happened, just make a better one next time. Look at Ghost Rider, the new reboot for that still has Nick Cage. Def keep Jason.
