I'm always looking to find a flick that passed under my radar that's worth renting or buying. I'll go ahead and suggest a couple of my own as a movie from last night inspired this post. I've seen some good movie info on here, so I'm fishing for more.
Kill the Irishman (2011) - Ray Stevenson, Christopher Walken, Vincent D'Onofrio

About Me
Here is my Author Bio ...
Halloran sits inside his man-cave on a throne of molten steel and stone. It is there that he hammers out stories for only the hardiest of mankind. He doesn't do it for the money, power and glory. He does it because he can, and because money, power and glory are really cool. His stories are fast-paced, action-packed and easy to follow. His plots have universal appeal as his characters struggle to overcome a calamity from one page to the next.
Halloran lives with his clan in an exotic and wondrous land. When his isn't spinning yarns of adventure, he stays busy honing his battle skills, fishing, and taking the heir to his throne to Cub Scouts.
Reader Beware: If you don't like these movies or characters … you might not like his books. Conan the Barbarian, Lethal Weapon, The Terminator, Die Hard, Enter the Dragon, The Sword and the Sorcerer, The Blood of Heroes, Hulk, The Road Warrior, Young Guns, Rambo, The Wild Bunch, Aliens, The Quick and the Dead, Iron Man and The Unforgiven. That's the short list. Halloran readily admits that these stories and characters may have influenced how he writes, excluding the volumes of novels that he has already read.
Halloran Quotes:
"You read what you want to read. I'll write what I want to write."
"Be your own hero, I've got things to do."
"It's your life; you believe want you want to believe. It's my life; I'll believe what I want to believe. That doesn't mean we can't get along. Now go away."
I am a father and husband. My son is named Conan (my wife actually used to love me that much back then) but we call him by his first name. I am an Air Force Veteran, Law Enforcement. Graduated from WVU in business. I started writing because other stories bored me, but now there is alot more talent and better books in fantasy more than ever. I have a knack for writing and the stories keep coming, I just wish I had more time.

Robert E. Howard Is Great!
02 June 2012 - 01:35 AM
Okay, I'm 43. I started reading Howard Conan at 14. There was always something resonated about all forms of Conan that kept me going. But now, in my tenured days, I must say I am astounded.
*Forgive me if there is another Howard topic like this, I did a quick search and failed. Crom!
Now, I write books, I read books and right now I am going back and reading the Conan stories published by Donald Grant. All REH. Seeing how I haven't read Howard Conan in at least a couple of decades, and I just picked up writing a few years ago myself, I wanted to emerse myself in his works. Now I know all of those little details to look for in a story.
As a writer, you have to read and write everyday. That is what makes you better. That's what Stephen King says. So, I read alot of books, some new and some old. Now I am going back and reading REH Conan with a different mind and more discerning eyes.
HOLY MEATBALLS, BATMAN!!!
There is not another writer who comes close to what he does describing everything! No one. At least not that I have read. (Feel free to recommend a few, there must be someone out there.) On every single page there is something descriptive that is brilliant. Many writers could only hope to do so well a few times in single book, but he does it all of the time. He's unparalled and unprecedented with this unearthly talent.
There are many elements that make stories good and great. Howard's stories are great because he forms a sentence describing something like nobody else can. He uses words you would never think to use. You see it and feel it. I'll never be able to wrap my head around how he did it. But hopefully I can learn something from it.
And that is my gushing on Howard for the day. It's long overdue.
