Early 70's I was hungry for some adventure stories when I went into a book store and saw Conan. I read the back cover and saw Frazetta's cover of a young warrior hanging onto the neck of what appeared to be a bull ape. I was hooked.

As S.S. says: everyone should start off by reading Howard, but therein lies the problem. Once you've read Howard's 12 books you are setting yourself up for disappointment. After reading those first books, you hunger for more, only to be somewhat disappoinred by the pastiches. Although as I wrote before anything with our favorite barbarian is better than nothing. I only yearn for the day when Conan properties will allow authors to write new material.

I likewise read his Conan works, but suffered through the Eye of the World. Then I thought o.k. maybe the others will be better so I bought 2 more. I did not finish them. A fantasy book has to be real bad for me not to finish it.

I've read all of the Howard books, as well as the pastiche's. Yes some are better than others, but I'm just glad to read something with our favorite barbarian as the main character.

I really enjoy the Samuel Adams seasonals, or Guinnes draught. Although, when I want to take the express route to mindlessville, I'll drink Cabo Wabo Tequilla. It doesn't matter which type. I'm a real cheap date on that stuff.  B)
